Please send a cover letter introducing yourself and your work-in-progress; a self-addressed, stamped envelope; and a book proposal that includes the following:
The working title, the estimated length, and a brief description of the book
A list of chapter contents or a detailed outline
A brief overview of the market for your book and its existing competition (which may take some thorough research on your part)
Your qualifications as author, including information on any previously published books, articles, or other materials, or relevant professional experience
Two or three sample chapters, and an introduction if applicable; no full manuscripts, please

What to Expect:
We do our best to respond promptly to all submissions. If your proposal is inappropriate for our publishing house, we will return a card in your self-addressed, stamped envelope within days of receipt. If we wish to consider the proposal further, you will hear from us in about 12 weeks, during which time we may request more information. Photography Submission Guidelines and Terms:
Images:
High-quality color transparencies of any size
Vertical or horizontal, and generally suitable for cropping as square or slightly rectangular
Images must not be in the public domain
Our Review Process:
Any materials you submit will be logged upon receipt. Images will be reviewed and either returned or acknowledged (and retained) within three weeks of receipt. Images that are retained for use will usually be returned within ten months
Payment:
Payment terms are negotiable. We do not pay research fees. Please check with us prior to sending images if you or your company requires such a fee
Terms:
Each image we use will be for the full life of the edition, which is generally a period of 3 to 5 years. In addition we require an exclusivity period that spans the life of the edition for images used on covers of books published or sold in North America. The average number of books sold during the life of each edition varies widely, but is usually from 10,000 to 20,000 copies.
The Countryman Press, in purchasing an image, reserves the right to reproduce that image, as part of the book cover, in any promotional materials, including but not limited to press releases, catalogs, ads and websites.
